Pleinair painter painting the landscape and life of the Inland Northwest of Eastern Washington, earth, third planet from the sun, 11 billion light years from the edge of creation.
Pleinair painting is the zen of painting. It is being in the moment. A light poem reflecting creation from the mirror of a single soul. Light stopped in the fabric of time, becoming material. Starlight caught in the web of earth's karma on the eternal path of existence.
I work 'en plein air' daily as a gardener works his garden, in contrast to my studio work which is a reflection of what I've found most significant in those daily chores. It usually has to do with light and substance. Light which is the substance of the universe from which all is derived. It is a marvelous yet challenging priveledge to be a painter.
I have been fortunate to have found horses to be my partner in this life. Looking into the eye of the horse reminds me that I am one with nature. That man is not the lonely bastard of creation he appears to be. That life should be a partnership with nature. That life is an opportunity to experience time as a human being in this paradise we call earth. An opportunity to work with helpful creatures such as horses, dogs, cats, elephants, dolphins. Is there a message there? Are we meant to be partners with nature and the creatures of the earth? That honey bees share their bounty? That dogs lie at our feet and protect us from threat. That if we chose, we could be here for ever, enjoying paradise and each other? How simple. How difficult a choice. A choice that is ours to make.
My work is a reminder to myself and others where we come from, where we are and where we are to return.
'If an angel fell to earth today would she laugh or cry?'
